Movies Till Dawn?

Movies Till Dawn Label

In a bygone era, few broadcast networks ran TV programming into the wee hours of the night, and those that did filled the airwaves with cheaply purchased B movies only the sleep-deprived mind of a night owl could come to appreciate.  These movies (filled with pitiful plots, buckets of strawberry-colored blood, and buxom scream-queens) earmarked the weekend nights of many young boys and girls.  Sometimes entire programs were put together to showcase these low-budget films to the late night crowd.  -Programs like, Mr. Corpse’s House of Terror, Dave’s Drive-In, or Cindy’s Late-Nite Cinema.  Our own imagined spot is called, Movies Till Dawn.  “-Tune in every Friday night at midnight, and we’ll bring you all the best second-feature movies we can find.  Each one filled with horror, action, and suspense.  So join us for, Movies Till Dawn!”

Yes late night aficionados, in this game you will finally get to experience the other side of the camera.  You’ll get to take on the roles of B movie stars and starlets struggling to make it in their own personal Hollywood hell. Together, you and your friends will place these actors in roles, many of which they hope no one will ever see.  Throughout the game, your acting choices will mediate how the film turns out and what sort of impact the movie has on your own actor’s career.  Will they finally graduate to one of the big studios?  Or will they spend another shoot, covered in silver body paint and wearing a costume made mostly of cardboard and spare television parts?  Grab a deck of standard playing cards and get ready to find out...

What is Movies Till Dawn?

In Movies Till Dawn you play a actor/actress trying to work their way into a respectable role, while suffering shoot-after-shoot of B-movie madness. Each film brings them a new character to portray, with differing goals and a selection of stock footage to try and fit in the film at the most sensible moment the player can come up with. The game plays fast (a 3 act movie only takes 1 1/2 hrs). The story -while structured by the shooting scripts and the character's scene objectives- is created communally as the players make plot exposition and take actions throughout the shoots. This means one film can be played multiple times (Wow, they're remaking "The Blob That Ate Manhattan!") and each time it is fresh and fun for the players. Further, the players get to improve the talents of their actor/actress as they gain more box office hype -even taking on funny quirks and developing repertoires the fans go crazy for. Dig this; you know how in other role-playing games players eventually get tired of their characters and are always wanting to design new ones? Or, you've probably seen many RPGs end because the players get all fired up about some new setting/genre of game. Well, this just doesn't happen with Movies Till Dawn, because every game is a new movie, offering the player's actor a fresh role and a new genre to sink their teeth into. This week the actress is a victim in a slasher flick. Next week she's a heroine in a western. And if things go well, she'll land the role of a Super Villain in the upcoming comic book thriller...
